The Sentinel

‘The Sentinel’ depicting Molly the Mule, a zebra dun rescue mule that I adopted. She had suffered abuse early in her life & was mostly unapproachable. Mules have a keen sense of self preservation & recognition of danger that's often misunderstood as stubborn. Perseverance is stubbornness with a purpose.

A retired cowboy friend exclaimed when asked if he would own a mule, "No way, mules are much smarter then me, and that won't go so good!"

She was a tenacious & tough little watchman, chasing away predators & often went on solo excursions along the top pastures. She made the sweetest noises. This painting is part of a series of prophetic paintings & represents the Lord’s watchmen who will sound the trumpet.

“For there shall be a day when the watchmen on the hills of Ephraim shall cry out, Arise, and let us go up to Zion, to the Lord our God.” Jeremiah 31:6
